TROY, Alabama – Troy football put a bow on week three of spring practice Friday in the shadows of the new North End Zone Facility with its annual Student Appreciation Scrimmage.
Troy students packed The Vet and many walked away with prizes such as tickets to the "Battle for the Belt" against South Alabama in Mobile, a Troy Yeti Cooler, Troy Athletics gear, food coupons and more.
"Today was a fun day and we had a really good student turnout," head coach Neal Brown said. "It was kind of one of your normal spring practice days where both sides did some good things. We have a lot of guys out, a lot of guys who are going to be on the field when we kick it off against Boise in early September. When you get this deep into spring practice it really becomes about the individual players and trying to get reps for guys that you want to take that next step."
Training Smart
The Troy strength and conditioning staff has a new way to track the performance of the players this season as Troy has added Catapult GPS Athlete Tracking Technology to the program. The system provides Troy's staff with real-time analysis on everything from heart rate to running speed.
"We are in the trial and error stage right now," Brown said. "We've used the system at a couple other places I've been and it allows us to train smarter and more efficiently. We are taking the spring to gather data and taking that information to help us in the fall where we can play the fastest and the freshest in the game."
The system has clocked sophomore wide receiver Tray Eafford at 20 MPH during practice. Jamarius Henderson hit 19.4 MPH, while B.J. Smith registered 19.2 MPH and Jabir Daughtry-Frye clocked in at 18.6 MPH.
This Thing is SWEET
Construction continues on Troy's North End Zone Facility with the anticipation that the Trojans move into their new digs before fall camp starts. TroyTrojans.com did a photo tour of the building a couple weeks ago which you can see HERE.
"I'm looking forward to getting in there because it is going to make us more efficient," Brown said. "Everything with the exception of academics is going to be under one roof and our guys will be in that area almost the whole time. However, just because we are moving into a new building, it's not going to make us soft and it's not going to change how we go about our approach."
The 400 new seats added in the project will provide fans a unique view of the game as they will feel like they are literally on top of the action. The 3,150-square foot video board is fully operational and it will accompany the video board in the southeast corner of The Vet to allow the entire stadium access to in-game content.
"I'm just as excited for our fans as I am our players," Brown added. "The new jumbotron and how the sound is really going to stay in that stadium is going to make for an exciting place to watch a game."
Buy Tickets, Get Some Bling: Season tickets are now on sale for the 2018 season at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Troy plays host to six home games during the 2018 campaign, including visits from Boise State, Georgia State and Louisiana.
Season ticket packages start as low as $60 and all ticket prices are identical to those from 2017. Fans who renew or purchase their tickets by Friday, April 27, will receive numerous incentives including a replica Troy football Sun Belt championship ring.
