TROY, Alabama – Infielder Drew Frederic has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Week ahead of Troy's midweek road trip to face in-state rival Jacksonville State at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.
Â
The Trojans (19-9) and Gamecocks (15-9) will meet Wednesday night for the 142nd rendition of the rivalry – the second-longest rivalry by two teams in the state of Alabama.
Â
Headed into the midweek tilt, the Trojans lead the Sun Belt in three major statistical categories; earned run average (3.56), stolen bases (49) and triples (10). Troy also ranks second in the league in batting average and fielding percentage.
Â
Five of Troy's nine probable starters are batting over .300 as of now, including sophomore Drew Frederic – who earned the first player of the week honors of his career.
Â
The Niceville, Fla., native batted 8-for-21 (.381) with two homers, seven runs driven in, six runs scored and a .667 slugging percentage. He also added a stolen base to take his team-leading total to 14 on the season, just one behind the conference-leader. Â
Â
Frederic is the third Trojan to bring home conference player of the week honors in just seven weeks this season. Matt Sanders won it after the opening weekend of the year, and Joey Denison did the same just two weeks later.
Â
Jacksonville State swept Murray State in Ohio Valley Conference action this past weekend to halt a three-game losing skid. Nic Gaddis leads the club with a .397 batting average, 13 doubles and a .632 slugging percentage.
