TROY, Alabama – After picking up two victories and the series win against No. 21 Texas State on Saturday, Troy (30-22, 14-11 SBC) dropped the final game of the series 4-0 on Senior Day at the Troy Softball Complex.
Â
Texas State (37-12, 16-4 SBC) plated three runs in the second inning on a fielder's choice RBI and two-run double and kept that momentum in the third inning with a solo home run to put the Bobcats' final run on the board. The Trojan defense came back firing in the fourth to keep Texas State at bay for the remainder of the game.
Â
The Trojans put three hits up. Hope Hernandez heated the bats up with a single into left field, followed by sophomore Madeline Porter who found the same location. Senior Cassidy McDilda played in just her eighth game of the season, but singled to left field in her first at-bat of the day.
Â
Both defenses battled it out, neither committing an error in the game, but timely hitting from the Bobcats lifted the Sun Belt leader to its 16th conference victory of the year.
Â
Peyton Glover made the start in the circle for Troy, but Claire Graves and Annie Willis also made an appearance in the game. Glover took the loss to move to 9-8 on the season. Graves entered in the top of the third inning and did not allow a run in 3.1 innings of work. Willis capped the game, throwing the final 1.2 innings. Graves and Willis each only gave up one hit.
Â
QUOTABLE
"Fight is a perfect way to describe this game," head coach Beth Mullins said. "The scoreboard doesn't show it, but this was a super competitive game and I give credit to Texas State for solid pitching and timely hitting. We have a few days off before we face South Alabama on Sunday, but we aren't going to change much around in practice. We are really fighting for that three-seed in the Sun Belt Tournament."
Â
NOTEWORTHY

NOTEWORTHY
- Troy is 3-7 this season against ranked opponents. This is the first time the Trojans have beaten three ranked teams in the Beth Mullins era (four seasons).
- All three ranked wins have come against a No. 21 and a conference team this year, Louisiana and Texas State.
- Texas State is now a perfect 26-0 when scoring four or more runs in a game. Troy held the Bobcats to three runs in game one and zero runs in game two for the wins on Saturday.
- In almost 200 plate appearances, Porter has only struck out six times. She entered the series ranked top-20 in the nation in "toughest to strikeout."
