Season Comes to an End as Troy Falls to South Alabama

RESULTS
PEACHTREE CITY, Georgia – No. 1 Troy women's tennis (9-11) dropped its semifinal matchup to No. 4 South Alabama 4-1 on Saturday in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Trojans earned a one-seed in the tournament for the first time in program history.
South Alabama entered the match with the best record in the conference at 19-3 after defeating UT Arlington in the quarterfinals 4-1 on Friday.
The Jaguars earned the doubles point early, taking two of the three matches, with a 6-2 win on court one and a 6-0 in on court three.
In singles play, no. 111 Alexandria Stiteler defeated Troy's Sanae Ohta 6-2, 6-1 on court one. The Jags took a 3-0 lead as Nikola Kohoutova earned a win on court six 6-3, 6-3 over freshman Maria Casas Blas. Troy rallied back as senior Nancy Karaky delivered a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four, outing the Trojans within two.
Unfortunately, South Alabama took the next match on court two 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the win, leaving Troy just short of reaching the finals as four seniors, Ohta, Karaky, Efriliya Herlina and Jiayuan Xue wrapped up their Trojan careers.
Herlina finished the season with a team-high 21 wins and went undefeated in regular season Sun Belt competition. Xue finished her career with a 16-11 record, going 7-1 in the fall and winning two fall tournaments. Karaky went 19-16 on the year as well as represented her home country of Lebanon in the Fed Cup. Ohta was named captain of the team and played all of her matches on court one for the Trojans this season.
