TROY, Alabama – Troy baseball is on the road to Jonesboro, Ark., this weekend to face off with Arkansas State in a three-game Sun Belt series at Tomlinson Stadium-Kell Field. First pitches on Friday and Saturday are set for 6:30 p.m., while Sunday will start at 1 p.m with all games broadcast on ESPN3.
Â
Troy (25-12, 8-7) swept in midweek action this week with two 10-2 wins over Alabama A&M and Alabama State and looks to carry that momentum back into conference play against a sputtering Red Wolves (12-21, 4-11) team.
Â
Coach Mark Smartt and the Trojans will continue looking to strong performances on the mound for success. Troy currently leads the league with a 2.97 ERA in conference games and a 3.48 ERA, overall.
Â
Familiar faces will toe the rubber for the Trojans in the series, as RHP Andrew Crane (3-3, 3.78), RHP Daren Osby (5-0, 3.05) and RHP Rush Hixon (2-2, 4.17) will start the three games.
Â
The Trojans are not too shabby offensively, either – ranking second in the league with a .285 team batting average this season. A pair of veteran seniors, Joey Denison and Matt Sanders lead the way, both near the top of seemingly every conference batting list. Denison is tops in the conference in batting average and RBIs, while Sanders has more hits and runs scored than any other player in the conference.
Â
Arkansas State has dropped nine of its last 10 since winning a three-game league set against Louisiana. A-State is paced by Kyle MacDonald, who leads the squad in batting, doubles, homers and RBIs.
