TROY, Alabama- Troy's (27-18, 11-8 SBC) seven-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night as the South Alabama Jaguars defeated the Trojans 7-0 under the lights at the Troy Softball Complex.
South Alabama (23-21, 8-10 SBC) out-hit the Trojans 11-3, and got off to a hot start scoring the first two runs in the game on a single from senior Kaleigh Todd as she broke the school's hit record, and an inside the park home run from Haleigh Lowe.
A solo home run in the second, followed by back-to-back triples and a sacrifice fly in the third inning gave the Jags a five-run lead over the Trojans.
Troy struggled at the plate and did not post its first hit of the game until the third inning as Hope Hernandez singled to left field, but was left stranded as a strikeout and line drive put South Alabama back at the plate.
Four base hits in the fourth inning plated two more runs for the Jaguars. Kynsley Rae Blasingame entered the circle in relief for Annie Willis after the first single of the inning. Blasingame only allowed one run to score for the remainder of the game.
Katie Webb singled up the middle in the sixth, and Erica Davis doubled in the bottom of the seventh, but strong pitching and defense from the Jaguars kept Troy from crossing the plate.
South Alabama ace Devin Brown threw a complete game with eight strikeouts. For Troy, Willis pitched three innings, gave up six hits and allowed six runs as she took the loss to move to 14-5 on the year.
