Troy Ties Triples Record; Wins Eighth Straight Midweek

MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Troy ripped two triples to tie the school's single-season record at 19 and pulled away with a 10-2 victory over Alabama State at Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex Wednesday night.

With the win, the Trojans (25-12) have now won eight straight midweek matchups since dropping their first of the season – outscoring the in-state opponents 68-29 in the last six games of the streak – and sweep the season series with the Hornets (20-17).

A big night for Rigsby Mosley helped spark the 10-run performance for Troy. The redshirt freshman finished 3-for-4 and was just a triple shy of the cycle, driving in three runs on a homer, double and single.

Matt Sanders, Joey Denison and Brody Binder each recorded two hits in the game – Sanders and Denison hit the Trojans' two triples in the game.

Troy started the game with a bang, scoring four on five hits in the first inning off Ivanniel Vazquez (1-5). Vazquez allowed six runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

The four-run first proved to be enough for Troy in the long run as Sadler Goodwin (3-2) gave up just two runs – one earned – in five innings to notch another one in the win column. Jackson Cofer, Lance Johnson and CJ Carter combined to work four scoreless frames with six strikeouts out of the bullpen.

"We did some good things. Jumped on them early which it's always good to get off to a good start. Our bullpen was terrific, Cofer, Johnson and Carter all looked really good. It's hard to produce that much intensity in the midweek after tough weekends. Good news is that our team is older and we're to the point where we can just go out and play."

Notable
• Senior shortstop Matt Sanders led off the game with his ninth career triple – giving him sole possession of third on Troy's all-time record list. Brandon Lockridge and Adam Bryant are currently tied for the lead at 11.

• In the top of the first, Drew Frederic stole his 20^th base of the season – which leads the Sun Belt Conference.

• Joey Denison recorded his conference-leading 46^th RBI with a first-inning double. The two-base knock was the senior's 30^th of his career.

• Redshirt freshman Rigsby Mosley tied career-highs with three hits and three RBIs in the game – he also moved into a tie for the team-lead with four homers on the year.

• Troy ripped two triples in the game to tie the school's all-time, single-season triples record with 19 – the Trojans have 19 games remaining this season to break the record.

Troy will carry the momentum from its two midweek wins back into conference play as it will travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to face off with Arkansas State Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
