MIRAMAR BEACH, Florida – The Troy women's golf team finished in second place at the Sun Belt Conference Women's Golf Championship as played concluded Tuesday at The Raven Golf Course. The Trojans' position on the leaderboard marks Troy's fifth straight year finishing first or second in the event.
"It hurts a little right now, because we came in believing that we could win this tournament," head coach Randy Keck said. "We had a great spring and I am so proud of the way we battled and played this week. We made some big, big strides over the course of the season and it turned into a good year for us."
Lindsey Harrison led a balanced Troy effort as she tied for 10thplace at 13-over for the tournament. Three Trojans finished in the top 20 as Sarah Harrison tied for 15thand Eva Fabricius-Bjerre tied for 20th. Fabricius-Bjerre tied for fifth in the field with nine birdies over her three rounds, while both Lindsey and Sarah Harrison finished tied for eighth with eight birdies.
"I'm super proud of Lindsey and the way she played this week," Keck said. "She struggled a little bit early and we worked on her golf swing and this week it paid off. A top-10 finish at the conference tournament is a big deal. Eva and Sarah also played fantastic; we had a lot of positives in this tournament."
Fabricius-Bjerre posted the low round of the day for the Trojans with an even-par 71. The Troy freshman ended with a flurry as she birdied three of the last five holes of the round. Sarah Harrison was strong around the middle of the course with a birdie on the par-4 ninth and then back-to-back birdies on No. 11 and No. 12 to shoot 2-over for the round.
In her final collegiate round, senior Antonia Poate fired a 7-over 78 with a pair of birdies to finish the Sun Belt Championship in a tie for 30thplace. Bianca Lohbauer, who tied for 26thplace, also shot 7-over in the final round – she played the back nine at even par with a bogey and a birdie after making the turn 7-over.
Lindsey Harrison had an up-and-down day for the Trojans after a brilliant 36 holes to open play in her second Sun Belt Championship. The co-leader after day one, Harrison carded three birdies in the final round and shot 9-over on the day for her top-10 finish.
"I'm excited about the foundation we have for next year," Keck said. "We will have a lot of experience back and players that have a lot of firepower off the tee. With our returning players and the four newcomers we have signed, we have a good opportunity to put five players in the lineup each week that can attack the golf course."
Coastal Carolina led wire-to-wire to claim the team championship while Coastal's Malene Krolboll Hansen won the individual title at 2-under par. Troy finished eight shots ahead of third-place Georgia Southern and 15 shots up on a trio of teams – South Alabama, Georgia State and Arkansas State – tied for fifth.
