MONROE, Louisiana- After scoring 16 runs and hitting four home runs on Saturday in the first two games against ULM (12-11, 2-3), Troy (17-10, 3-3) came up short, falling in the final game of the series 6-4 at the ULM Softball Complex on Sunday.
The Trojans struck first as Logan Calhoun led off with a single. A stolen base and a sacrifice bunt from Taylor Corbett put Calhoun 60 feet from the plate. Katie Webb stepped up and delivered a sacrifice fly to bring Corbett home as Troy took a 1-0 lead.
ULM answered back with a four-run first inning. A few walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases early and a wild pitch brought the first runner in. A timely three-RBI double from Brie Wrobel brought the remaining runners across the plate as the Warhawks took a 4-1 lead.
ULM added its fifth run with a double and an RBI-single in the bottom of the third. The Warhawks used the momentum the next inning with a triple from Sydney McKay and a base hit to bring her home as the Warhawks expanded their lead to five runs.
After falling short at the plate for three innings, a three-run shot over the left field wall for senior Erica Davis put the Trojans within two in the fifth inning. Brooke Echols led the inning off with a double and a single from Kaylee Hussey put runners on the corners with no outs. Davis stepped up to the plate blasting her second long ball of the year clearing the bases. Troy posted another hit in the inning, but couldn't convert the run.
The Trojans went three-up, three- down the next two innings as ULM held on to the two-run lead.
After giving up four runs, Peyton Glover entered the circle as relief for Claire Graves in the first inning. Graves only allowed one hit, but took the loss and moved to 4-5 on the year. Glover was able to keep the Warhawks at bay, allowing only two runs and throwing three strikeouts.
