TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's golf team gets a second crack at a true spring opener as the Trojans travel to the Forest Hills Golf Club this weekend for the 3M Augusta Invitational. Teams will play 18 holes on Friday thru Sunday to comprise the 54-hole event on the par-72, 6,248-yard course.
Troy's official start to the spring schedule was two weeks ago at The Dickson hosted by Houston, however heavy rains condensed the tournament down to just a single round and never allowed the players to get comfortable on the course.
"We were so excited to play that first event of the spring, and then when you have to sit and watch it rain for three days it works on your psyche a little bit," head coach Randy Keck said. "We are treating this weekend as our spring opener and have had some extra time to prepare for it."
The tournament is a familiar one for the Trojans as it is an annual event on Troy's schedule. Junior Bianca Lohbauer played the best tournament of her career on the course last season as she tied for fifth with a 1-under 215. Fellow junior Lindsey Harrison's shot a 1-under 71 in the final round of the event two years ago and transfer Sarah Harrison grew up just two miles from the golf course.
"It's a big momentum boost heading into the tournament for our ladies knowing that they've had success on the course," Keck said. "We need to play smart golf and not make a lot of big mistakes. This is not a course that is going to give you a ton of birdies, so we need to take our pars and limit the big numbers. We're playing better quality golf right now and everybody is feeling pretty good about where their game is."
Sarah Harrison enters her hometown event leading the Trojans with a 75.46 stroke average for the season and with two rounds under par. Lindsey Harrison (77.15), Lohbauer (77.31) and Eva Fabricius-Bjerre (77.54) are separated by just five strokes on the season. Lohbauer also has a pair of rounds in the red this season. Antonia Poate (80.15) will be making her first career appearance at the 3M Augusta Invitational.
The Field
Augusta, Central Arkansas, Columbia, Daytona State, Eastern Michigan, East Tennessee State, Georgia, James Madison, Memphis, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Purdue, Southern Miss, Troy and Virginia Tech
T-Time
Troy will play alongside Eastern Michigan and Columbia in Friday's opening round with the first threesome hitting the course at 9:20 a.m. (CT) from the 10th tee box.
