Late Run Dooms Trojans at Home

TROY, Alabama – Middle Tennessee finished the game on a 14-0 run and drove away from Trojan Arena with a 67-64 victory over Troy on Tuesday.
Trailing 64-53 with 3:59 remaining, the Blue Raiders (7-2) made eight free throws and a pair of 3-pointers while holding the Trojans (6-2) scoreless. Troy build its lead on an 8-0 run midway through the quarter, but failed to capitalize on open looks from 3-point range.
Despite winning the rebounding battle, 55-31, Troy hauled in just one board in the final four minutes. Kayla Robinson scored 13 points and pulled in 12 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. Sky'Lynn Holmes turned in seven points and 10 rebounds while Shaterrika O'Neal led the squad with 14 points.
Both teams got off to a slow start with the teams combine to go 2-for-13 to open the game. The Trojans rallied however making six of their last seven shots of the quarter to take a 14-7 lead. Middle Tennessee was forced to settled for 3-point attempts on seven of its first 11 field goal attempts, but finished 10-of-30 from beyond the arc.
Turnovers cost Troy throughout the game as the Blue Raiders turned 26 Trojan miscues into 31 points.
Taylor Sutton led all scorers with 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting and four 3-pointers. Jess Louro knocked down six treys to finish with 18 points while Alex Johnson added 14 points.

• The loss was the first at home in non-conference since Dec. 18, 2016 snapping a seven-game winning streak.
