Tallahassee, Fla. – Troy men's basketball begins action in December against No. 15 Florida State on Monday at David L. Tucker Civic Center. Tip is set for 7 p.m. (CT) and the game will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
In their last game, the Trojans dropped a tough 79-74 decision to Austin Peay in overtime on Thursday night inside of Trojan Arena. Senior Alex Hicks posted his first double double of the season in 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Sophomore Javan Johnson added 14 points with six boards and an assist while senior Jordon Varnado also contributed 14 points alongside three boards, three assists, a block and one steal. Sophomore Darian Adams poured in a career-high tying 11 points including going a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
On the season, Varnado is nearly averaging a double-double to begin the season in 16.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, which is the second-most in the Sun Belt Conference. While Varnado is the leading scorer, Hicks follows behind with 12.0ppg, on 52.9 percent (36-of-68) and senior BJ Miller leads Troy with 3.0 dimes and 1.4 steals per game.
Scouting Florida State
15th-ranked Florida State edged No. 18 Purdue, 73-72 on Wednesday night in Tallahassee. In the game, sophomore MJ Walker led the Seminoles with 13 points, a pair of rebounds and an assist. Senior Terrance Mann nearly posted a double double in nine points and eight rebounds alongside an assist and two blocks.
On the season, Mann leads the team in points per game (12.1) and rebounds per game (7.1) while sophomore Mfiondu Kabengele adds 11.1 points per game.
Series History
Monday's game will mark the first-ever between the two teams in Troy's Division I era. The last matchup between the two teams was Dec. 1, 1977 where the Seminoles topped Troy State, 110-82 in Tallahassee, Fla.
