Troy, Ala. – Troy led wire-to-wire in a dominant 88-43 win over Carver College on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action inside of Trojan Arena.Â
Â
The 43 points allowed by the Trojans (4-5) are the fewest allowed by Troy men's basketball inside of Trojan Arena; the previous mark was 50 by Texas State on March 8, 2014.Â
Â
Freshman Zay Williams led the Trojans with a game- and career-high 14 points alongside a career-high tying six boards, a block and two steals off the bench. Senior Jordon Varnado followed behind Williams with 13 points on 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) shooting from the field, three rebounds and a steal in 16 turnover-free minutes.Â
Â
Senior Alex Hicks nearly posted his second double double of the season after posting 12 points and nine boards on the evening.Â
Â
Troy opened the game on an 8-0 run that eventually turned into a 31-5 lead over the Cougars (0-17) with 9:51 remaining in the first half. The largest lead of the night came with 14:33 remaining in the game as the Trojans led by 52 (73-21).Â
Â
QUOTING COACH CUNNINGHAM
"We've had a nine-day break, and this is the longest break the team has had in a while. The coaching staff wanted to make sure we played an opponent where we will have the opportunity to knock some rust off and we did that."
Â
"I was really pleased with how our guys played, more so of what they didn't do; we never got really selfish, we kept moving the ball and taking good shots and never let the opponent dictate how we played in certain areas."
Â
