Tallahassee, Fla. – The Troy men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their seasons at the NCAA South Regional on Friday morning. The men finished 17th while the women landed in 23rd at Apalachee Regional Park.
The men tallied 380 points on the day with Ole Miss winning the 10k regional race scoring 45 points. The men's finish marks the best in program history. The women garnered 658 points and Florida State took home the team title with 60 points.
Senior Brackin Stewart finished off his last cross country race as a Trojan with a personal record 10k time of 32:35.1, crossing the finish line in 37th out of the 157-man lineup. Fellow seniors Sawyer Sprung (72nd) and Brennan Garriques (84th) rounded out the top-three Trojan finishers with times of 33:23.4 and 33:39.5, respectively. Senior Bradley Dixon crossed the finish line in 94th in 33:56.8 and junior Daniel Glick completed the Trojan scoring with a 104th-place finish in 34:10.9. Both Sprung and Glick also joined Stewart in setting their personal records in the race.
"Overall, the men ran well," head coach Elliott Blount said. "There were a couple spots out there today where we let the race get away from us. The team finish maybe moves us up a couple in the team rankings. It was the last go round for a couple of the guys, so it was nice to place the highest ever for Troy at this meet."
For the women, sophomore Kara Coulter led the way with a 99th overall finish in 22:44.8. Freshman Caroline Sall followed behind Coulter in 110th, completing the 6k race in 22:55.4. Freshman Tanner Guest (136th) turned in a top-three Troy time, finishing the race in 23:29.1. Senior Krystin Guirey (24:24.8) and sophomore Michaela Ashley (25:35.5) finalized the Trojan lineup with respective finishes of 174th and 178th.
"The women are a year away from being competitive with the middle of the pack at the meet," Blount said. "The young core of this group has a top-10 finish in their future if they continue to improve. It was nice to see this young group bounce back after a tough conference meet!"
