Cedarius Rookard Named Finalist for South Carolina Football Hall of Fame Award

TROY, Ala. – Troy senior safety Cedarius Rookard is among 20 finalists for the annual South Carolina Football Hall of Fame Blanchard-Rogers Award, which is presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate player that has South Carolina ties.

A Spartanburg, S.C., native and Spartanburg High School alum, Rookard has started 38 career games for the Trojans and is coming off an All-Sun Belt season last year. Rookard is third on the Troy team this year with 44 tackles while tying for the team lead with a pair of interceptions. He has added a tackle for loss, two pass break ups and a forced fumble. Rookard is also one of the nation's top punt returners ranking 13th nationally averaging 11.9 yards per return including a punt return for a touchdown in Troy's win at Nebraska.

Rookard will go down in Troy lore for his jarring hit on the first play from scrimmage in Troy's victory at LSU last season. Rookard hit LSU running back Nick Brossette to force a fumble; Troy recovered, scored five plays later and never relinquished the lead.
