MACON, Ga. – Nicole Lorup turned in her third top-10 finish of the fall to lead the Troy women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Idle Hour Collegiate Championship as play concluded Tuesday at the Idle Hour Golf Club.
Lorup, a true freshman, fired a 1-over 73 in the round and finished her first fall at the collegiate level with a 74.00 stroke average with three rounds under par and four top-25 finishes in five events. She carded a pair of birdies, both on the back nine, in Tuesday's final round to climb into a tie for 10thplace.
The Trojans took home fourth place in the field of 13 teams and now have three top-four finishes among their five fall events.
"Anytime you finish in the top five you feel blessed for a good week," head coach Randy Keck said. "We did not play our best golf but we are improving every week and our younger players are continuing to get better. I'm excited for a good spring."
Troy played with three true freshmen in the lineup this week and were without one of its top players as Sarah Harrison missed the event. Camila Ugalde tied for 27thplace and Anna Claire Little turned in a countable round on Tuesday with a 5-over 77 and tied for 54thplace.
"I was super proud of our three freshmen," Keck said. "They responded really well and we asked a lot of them. Nicole has been super steady this fall, she didn't play her best yesterday, but bounced back today. Camila and Anna Claire battled hard today and made a bunch of birdies and showed they are going to be a major part of our lineup and program going forward."
Bianca Lohbauer closed out her fall tied for 21stafter shooting a 6-over 78 on Tuesday with a birdie on the par-4 10th. Lindsey Harrison slipped into a tie for 27thwith Ugalde after shooting 12-over in the final round. Ugalde and Little combined for six birdies on Tuesday and shot 75 and 77, respectively. Playing as an individual, Judith Castro tie for 59thplace after shooting 5-over on Tuesday.
The Trojans now break for the winter before regrouping for the Spring Break Shootout hosted by Western Kentucky in Tampa, Fla., on March 10-12.
"If I'm being honest, I thought we would be a little better by this point," Keck said. "On the flip side, we've played a pretty tough schedule on purpose to put them in the fire early. Where we go from here is totally up to the players. We have a ton of talent, we just have to put it together and play."
