Mississippi Thanksgiving: Troy Participates in Lady Eagle Classic

TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's basketball team will celebrate the end of Thanksgiving week in Hattiesburg, Miss., taking part in the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic Friday and Saturday.

The Trojans (3-1) went on a 15-0 run over the final 2:35 to take down ETSU and win its third straight game on Monday. Kayla Robinson scored a game-high 24 points, while Tyra Johnson hit 6-of-8 three-pointers to finish with 20 points. Troy held the Bucs to just 1-of-12 shooting from 3-point range in the game.

Sam Houston State (2-2) cruised past NAIA foe Wiley College, 101-63, on Monday. The Kats hit 52.9 percent from the floor and forced 31 turnovers, while hitting 24-for-24 from the foul line and winning the battle on the glass by a 44-31 margin. Lydia Baxter ledall players on the boards with 10, adding seven points in 20 minutes of work.

Mississippi Valley State (1-2) defeated Austin Peay on Monday, 95-89, in a thrilling game that saw the teams combine to score 62 points in the fourth quarter alone. MVSU shot 69.4 percent (24-49) from the field. The Devilettes recorded 14 steals while forcing Austin Peay into 26 turnovers in the game. Mississippi Valley State visit Middle Tennessee on Wednesday.

Freshman Amber Leggett pumped in 23 points, pulling in six boards and hitting 8-for-11 from the foul line, including two in the final seconds to push Sam Houston over the 100-point plateau. Rachel Harrell also added 14 points and hit two of the Kats' five 3-point buckets, while Jaylonn Walker had 13 points and seven assists and La'Sha Haynes added 13 points and six boards.
