TROY, Ala. – For the second consecutive season, Troy volleyball will aim to play spoiler at the Sun Belt Conference Championship starting with fifth-seeded UTA Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (CST) in the GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta.
Â
The Trojans (11-18, 5-11) and Mavs (15-11, 9-7) second meeting this season will be broadcast on ESPN+. When the two teams met back in October, UTA swept Troy in three sets at Trojan Arena.
Â
Troy's carrying a load of momentum into the tournament after knocking off defending conference champ Coastal Carolina in a five-set thriller Saturday night. All-Sun Belt second teamer Cheyenne Hayes led the Trojans with 23 kills, 11 digs and two service aces in the match.
Â
Freshman setter Amara Anderson recorded her fifth match with 50-plus assists and moved into ninth place on the school's single-season assists record – one day removed from setting the all-time freshman assists record.
Â
Troy has now advanced to the conference tournament in both of head coach Josh Lauer's first two seasons at the helm of the program. In 2017, No. 8 Troy sent No. 5 South Alabama packing in the opening round of the tournament.
