TROY, Ala. – Following a three-week hiatus, the Troy women's golf team returns to the links at the Palmetto Intercollegiate beginning Sunday. The 17-team field is scheduled to play 54 holes over three days at the Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
"Every time we get in the van, it is our goal to win the golf tournament," head coach Randy Keck said. "There are several really good teams in this field and we are getting much closer to becoming a team that can step off the van and win each week, and that's what I'm excited about."
The Trojans are coming off a third-place finish at the Starmount Fall Classic in their last appearance back on the opening two days of the month. Freshman Nicole Lorup turned in her second third-place individual finish of the season at 2-over, while Lindsey Harrison and Sarah Harrison recorded top-25 finishes.
Lorup carries a 2.11 score vs. par into the Palmetto Intercollegiate and is the lone Trojan to card a round under par this season. Bianca Lohbauer and both Harrisons have all had their card count towards the team score in 8-of-9 rounds this season and are all within a stroke of each other this season. After playing as an individual at Starmount, freshman Anna Claire Little will make her lineup debut at the Palmetto.
"We've used the break well to recoup and reenergize," Keck said. "We spent a lot of time hitting wedges and doing putting drills to clean up some weak areas from our first three tournaments. One of our advantages this year compared to last is that we have a lot of depth. We have four or five new players that are battling each week for a spot in the lineup along with our veteran players. It's pushing everyone to up their game and we're finding out who really wants to compete."
