Men’s Golf Tied for Eighth at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate; Final Round Canceled

Final Results
CHOUDRANT, La. – Troy golfers carded a pair of eagles and three rounds under par on the opening day of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate held Monday at Squire Creek. Troy finished in a tie for eighth place in the field of 15 as heavy rain canceled Tuesday's final round pf play.
Ike Alexander holed out on the par-4, 405-yard eighth hole and Dean Martin carded a three on 561-yard 17th for Troy's first two eagles of the season. Martin led the Trojans in a tie for 20thplace at 1-over following Monday's two rounds. He added four birdies to his eagle in the opening round to shoot 2-under before following with a 3-over 75 on his second trip through the course.
Connor Futrell also dropped an opening-round 2-under for the Trojans and tied with teammate Will McFadden for 31stplace overall at 3-over. Futrell birdied four holes in the morning session for a 2-under – his second round under par this season – before shooting 5-over in the afternoon round. McFadden has opposite fortunes with a 4-over 76 in the opening 18 with three birdies before dropping five birdies in round two for a 1-under 71.
UAB won with a 2-shot advantage over Georgia, while Cincinnati was 24 shots back of the Blazers in third place with Lamar and Abilene Christian rounding out the top five. Troy finished just 10 shots back of third and five shots off a top-five finish.
Playing as an individual, Brent Hamm opened his collegiate career with a pair of rounds of 2-over with a combined five birdies to find himself tied for 36thplace. Jake Tiffin carded five birdies on his day but struggled with three double-bogeys to find himself tied for 58thplace at 8-over while Alexander tied for 72ndat 12-over.
The Trojans were strong as a group on the par 5 shooting a collective 15-under, which was the third-best in the field, while Troy's 29 birdies ranked as the fourth best on day one.
