STATESBORO, Ga. – Troy volleyball kept its momentum going Friday night, as it won its third straight Sun Belt road win in five sets over Georgia Southern.
Â
After falling in their first four conference matchups, the Trojans (9-11, 3-4) have responded with three wins in a row – all on the road – including a thrilling, five-set win Friday.
Â
Reigning conference players of the week Cheyenne Hayes and Amara Anderson headed the Troy attack, Hayes with 21 kills and Anderson with 55 assists. Both players recorded double-doubles in the match, as well, with 12 and 17 digs respectively.
Â
The Trojans also received valuable production from Savannah Moore and Jenni Young in the match, especially attacking the ball. Moore finished with 14 kills and a .345 hitting percentage, while young posted 10 kills at .321.
Â
The match saw several momentum swings in itself, as Georgia Southern (7-13, 2-4) took sets two and four sandwiched between wins in one, three and five for Troy. With the win, the Trojans snapped a seven-game losing streak to the Eagles dating back to the 2014 season.
Â
Quotable – Troy Head Coach Josh Lauer
"Really gritty win tonight. Our defensive effort continues to be fantastic and Amara Anderson earned yet another double-double. Jenni Young really led the way for the offense early before Cheyenne Hayes and Savannah Moore closed the match with a flurry. Our service game was very good as well; Natalie Hummel's three aces coming off the bench were clutch. We will enjoy this one tonight and be ready for another tough opponent on Saturday."
