TROY, Ala. – Jabir Daughtry-Frye and Marcus Jones have been named Sun Belt Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced Monday. Daughtry-Frye earned offensive honors and Jones took home special teams distinction marking the third straight week a Trojan has earned Sun Belt weekly honors.
Â
Daughtry-Frye touched the football offensively just seven times in Troy's win over Coastal Carolina but made them count with 140 yards rushing on five carries and 36 yards on a pair of receptions. The redshirt-sophomore found the end zone twice on Saturday, once a 74-yard run and another on 35-yard reception on a pass from wide receiver Luke Whittemore.
Â
A native of Pensacola, Fla., Daughtry-Frye accounted for 211 all-purpose yards in the game and along with B.J. Smith became the first Troy teammates to top the 100-yard mark in the same game since 2002. The Trojans set a school record in the game averaging 9.1 yards per carry.
Â
Jones, a native of Enterprise, Ala., continued to etch his name in the Troy and Sun Belt history with his fourth career kickoff return for a touchdown. The sophomore returned the opening kickoff of the game 96 yards for a touchdown marking the second straight year Jones took the initial kick of the game against the Chanticleers back for a score. His four career kickoff return touchdowns now sit as the most in Troy history and tied for the most in Sun Belt history.Â
Â
Troy has a quick turnaround this week with Georgia State paying a visit to The Vet on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
