Troy Duo Headed to Spiral Tropical Bowl

TROY, Alabama – A pair of leaders on Troy's top-rated defense are headed to the Spiral Tropical Bowl in Daytona Beach, Fla., on January 14. Linebacker Sam Lebbie and cornerback Kamryn Melton will represent the Trojans in the all-star classic.

Lebbie, a Washington D.C., native finished third on the Trojans' squad with 56 tackles this past season as Troy won a school record (FBS) 11 games to go along with a Sun Belt Conference championship and New Orleans Bowl title.

Lebbie also finished third among his teammates with 10.5 tackles for loss – the Trojans set a school record and finished third nationally with 112 tackles for loss on the season. He added a pair of sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and three quarterback hurries for the Trojans.

Melton, a Dothan, Ala., native was a key piece of Troy's secondary as he appeared in all 13 games and finished with six pass break ups, 16 tackles and half a tackle for loss. With Melton manning the outside, Troy has recorded the third-most interceptions in the country over the past two seasons with a combined 39.

Troy will finish the 2017 season ranked 11th nationally having allowed just 18.5 points per game, however when taking out points allowed by the offense and special teams that number dips to just 16.8 points per game. Additionally, Troy leads the country in red zone defense, while ranking seventh in rushing defense, seventh in sacks and 16th in turnovers gained.

The third-annual Tropical Bowl is scheduled for 9 a.m. (ET) on Sunday, January 14, at Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium. More than 110 players that have appeared in the Tropical Bowl since its inception in 2016 have appeared on NFL rosters.
