SBC Title Game Rematch Set for Saturday
1/26/2018 3:13:00 PM | Basketball (W)
GAME NOTES
LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – On Saturday, Troy and UL Lafayette face off for the first time since the Trojans claimed the program's second straight Sun Belt Conference Tournament title in New Orleans' Lakefront Arena in March.
Â
This time, however, the 4 p.m. matchup is taking place in the Cajundome where Troy fell in the regular season a year ago and is just 2-8 all-time despite leading the overall series, 11-10. The good news for the Trojans is that the team seemed to break its road curse with an 86-79 victory at ULM on Thursday. Troy (9-10, 4-4 Sun Belt) had not won away from Trojan Arena since Nov. 27, a span of eight games.
Â
Kayla Robinson and Amber Rivers have been guiding lights for Troy over the last three games averaging 20 and 19.3 points per game, respectively. Rivers is third in the Sun Belt shooting 50.9 percent from the field and has reached the 20-point plateau in three of the last four games.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns (10-10, 5-3) sit a game ahead of the Trojans in the league standings after suffering a 72-57 loss at home to South Alabama on Thursday. Leading scorer Nekia Jones paced the team with 16 points, but it was not enough to combat the Jaguars' 48 percent shooting and 11 3-pointers.
