Troy Volleyball Makes Season Debut at South Carolina

TROY, Alabama – The Troy volleyball team will make its much-anticipated 2017 debut with a three match tournament stint at South Carolina. The Trojans will face North Florida on Friday, August 25, at 3:30 p.m. and will take on host team South Carolina and Mercer on Saturday at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.

First-year head coach Josh Lauer is at the helm for the Trojans in a new era of Troy volleyball. 11 letter winners return to the court for Troy this season. Key elements returning to the team include seniors Avalon Nero, and Reina Terry who posted a team-high 841 assists last season. Defensively, sophomore Logan Page posted 112 total blocks in 2016.

ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
The Ospreys (0-0) finished fourth in the A-Sun last season with an overall record of 18-14. Sophomore Gabby O'Connell was named Freshman of the Year in 2016. She was also named to the A-Sun Preseason All-Conference team for the 2017 campaign.

First-year head coach Derek Schroeder leads the Bears after they went 15-14 in 2016. Mercer (0-0) returns five starters from last season. Senior Morgan Macgilvary led the squad with 368 kills and Paige Alsten returns as a key defensive player for the Bears after posting 102 total blocks last season.

Host team South Carolina (0-0) went 18-12 overall in 2016. The Gamecocks return three starters and 12 total letter winners from 2016. Sophomore Mikayla Shields paved the way with 341 kills and a hitting percentage of .308.
