TROY, Alabama – Troy's all-conference receiver duo of Emanuel Thompson and Deondre Douglas has been named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Tuesday. Troy is one of just five teams to have a pair of players named to the 45-man watch list.
Â
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. The 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented on Dec. 7, 2017, on The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
Â
Thompson, a senior from Clayton, Ala., led the Sun Belt with 80 receptions a year ago while tying for second with six touchdown receptions and finishing third with 820 receiving yards (just two yards out of second place). His reception total ranked 23rd nationally and was the second most in a season in Troy history, just four shy of Jerrel Jernigan's 84 in 2010.
Â
Thompson, an All-Sun Belt First Team Selection, was named ESPN's Player of the Game in Troy's victory in the Dollar General Bowl after he pulled down eight passes for 83 yards and a score.
Â
Douglas, a junior from Madison, Ala., posted similar numbers with 60 receptions for 740 yards and six touchdowns. An All-Sun Belt Second Team selection, Douglas led the nation for the most catches without a drop on the year. His reception tally ranked third in the Sun Belt, while his touchdown total tied with Thompson for the second most.
Â
Douglas caught a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes in Troy's 6-point loss at Clemson and recorded a season-high 113 yards on six catches in the Dollar General Bowl. He finished third in the league with six catches of 30 or more yards last season.
Â
Coming off the best turnaround in the country, an Associated Press Top 25 ranking, the first 10-win season in the school's FBS history and a Dollar General Bowl title, Troy will be among the favorites in the Sun Belt Conference and the Group of Five with 17 starters and 54 lettermen returning from the 2016 squad.
Â
Troy set single-season records last season for both overall attendance and per-game attendance. The Trojans once again have six home games in The Vet including in-state matchups with Alabama State and South Alabama.
Season ticket packages start at low as $60 for general admission seats and fans have multiple options to choose from including Family 4-Packs, Stadium Club and reserved seating.
