AL.com - Top 25 Alabama High School Running Backs in the Last 25 Years
TROY, Alabama – Troy redshirt sophomore running back Jamarius Henderson has been named one of the top 25 Alabama high school running backs in the last 25 years by AL.com. The Dale County High School star checked in at No. 7 on the list the featured a star-studded cast headlined by Etowah's Carnell Williams.
Henderson was one of three finalists for the 2014 Mr. Football Award after becoming just the fourth player in AHSAA history to rush for over 3,000 yards in a season, as he finished his senior campaign with an AHSAA record 3,483 yards. He scored 48 touchdowns on the season – three shy of the state record – and was named a Parade Magazine All-America honorable mention.
He dominated the Warriors' run to the Alabama 3A title game with 1,465 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in Dale County's five playoff games. He finished his prep career with 9,700 rushing yards and led Dale County to a 25-2 record in his final two seasons.
Henderson sat out the 2016 season due to NCAA rules after transferring to Troy from Memphis. As a freshman, he rushed for 320 yards on 60 carries with four rushing touchdowns and two touchdown receptions for the Tigers.
Coming off the best turnaround in the country, an Associated Press Top 25 ranking, the first 10-win season in the school's FBS history and a Dollar General Bowl title, Troy will be among the favorites in the Sun Belt Conference and the Group of Five with 17 starters and 54 lettermen returning from the 2016 squad.
Troy set single-season records last season for both overall attendance and per-game attendance. The Trojans once again have six home games in The Vet including in-state matchups with Alabama State and South Alabama.
Season ticket packages start at low as $60 for general admission seats and fans have multiple options to choose from including Family 4-Packs, Stadium Club and reserved seating.
