Horner Leads Troy on Day One of NCAA Regional

ATHENS, Georgia – Becca Horner led the Troy women's golf team in Monday's opening round of the NCAA Athens Regional as she shot a 3-over 75 with a trio of birdies, including on her final hole of the day. The Trojans are in 17th place overall after one round of play at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
Horner, who is tied for 30th, birdied two of her first five holes on the day as the Trojans started on the back nine. The Troy senior eventually made the turn at 2-over and was 4-over heading into the final hole of the day where she sank a birdie on the par-5 No. 9 to finish with Troy's best round of the day.
The Trojans qualified for NCAA postseason play after winning their third Sun Belt Conference title in the last four seasons. The Regional appearance was also Troy's third in the last four years after competing at the Tallahassee Regional in 2014 and the South Bend Regional in 2015.
Sophomore Bianca Lohbauer is one shot back of Horner in a tie for 38th place after carding one birdie en route to a 4-over 76. Fátima Fernández Cano and Lindsey Harrison both had one birdie during their rounds and finished the day tied for 85th place after shooting 10-over, while Gabi Oubre' had a pair of birdies and shot 11-over to finish the day tied for 91st.
No. 14-seed Michigan State is the surprise leader following the first round of play at 4-under as a team followed by No. 1 Alabama (+2), No. 2 Georgia (+5), No. 3 Northwestern (+7), No. 5 Baylor (+8) and No. 8 Tennessee (+9). The top six teams and top individual not on a qualifying team following 54 holes advance to the NCAA Championship.
The Trojans will hit the course for Tuesday's second round beginning at 8:09 (CT) beginning on the 10th hole along with Kansas State and Quinnipiac.
