TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's golf team will make its third appearance in an NCAA Regional in the last four years when the Trojans tee off Monday at the University of Georgia Golf Course in the Athens Regional.
Troy will be the No. 15 seed in the Regional which features Alabama, Georgia, Northwestern, Arizona and Baylor as the top-five seeds. The top six teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team at the Athens Regional will advance to the NCAA Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
The Trojans earned the Sun Belt Conference's automatic bid into the NCAA field after winning the league title for the third time in the last four seasons under head coach Bart Barnes. Troy has led at the end of 10 of the last 12 rounds in the Sun Belt Championship.
Fátima Fernández Cano leads a trio of seniors in the lineup for Barnes as she enters the NCAA Regional with the second-best stroke average in school history – Cano owns four of the top five marks. She has posted a 73.29 average on the year with a +1.50 score vs. par; Cano ranks 26th nationally with a 4.77 scoring average on par 5 holes, while her stroke average is 98th best.
Becca Horner is coming off the best round of her career as she fired a 4-under 68 in the final round of the Sun Belt Championship and carries a 76.82 stroke average into the Regional. Gabi Oubre' is third on the team with a 76.50 average for the year and a 76.19 mark in the spring.
Sophomores Bianca Lohbauer and Lindsey Harrison will comprise the final two spots in the lineup for the Trojans. Lohbauer's 74.96 stroke average is the fourth lowest in a single-season in Troy history and her four rounds under par are second only to Cano's six. Harrison carries a 78.52 average into the Regional, but played the spring to a 77.56 mark and turned in four rounds of 76 or lower over her final seven rounds.
