TROY, Alabama – Georgia Southern defeated Troy, 6-3, to take the second game of the Sun Belt set and clinch the series victory at Riddle-Pace Field Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans (15-14, 4-7) took an early 2-1 lead in the first but weren't able to score again until the eighth – leaving 12 runners on base. Trevor Davis continued his tear at the plate with two more doubles in a 2-for-3 performance – he is 10-for-18 with six doubles in the last five games.

Troy's Matt Sanders went 2-for-5 in his 10^th multi-hit game of the season, while driving in one and scoring once. Justin Friend drove in the other two Trojan runs on a single in the first inning to bring his season total to 19. Overall, nine different Trojans hit safely to aid the 11 hit effort.

Austin Crook (4-1) was saddled with the loss for the first time in a Troy uniform – he was 8-0 prior to today's game. Crook allowed three runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Five different Eagles (20-11, 7-4) delivered multiple hits for the squad – led by Ryan Cleveland's 2-for-3 day with a moon-shot home run and two RBIs.

Evan Challenger (1-4) won his first game of the season in relief – not allowing a run and scattering two hits in 1.1 innings on the mound. Landon Hughes earned the save for the second game in a row to bring his season total to five.

QUOTABLE
"Again we had a chance to win at the end," Troy head coach Mark Smartt said. "We just weren't able to cash in on our opportunities. The win-loss line is very fine at this level and we're just a little below that curve right now."

SOUND "SMARTT" WITH YOUR FRIENDS
• Second baseman Brandon Lockridge extended his hitting streak to 15 games and has now reached base in all 29 of Troy's games this season after he led off the third inning with a single.

• Trevor Davis recorded his ninth and 10th doubles of the season with a two-bagger in the first and fifth innings – he leads the Trojans with 13 extra-base hits this season. Davis is now 10-for-18 with six doubles and 10 RBIs over last five games.

• Trevor Davis picked up his eighth multi-hit game of the season and 27th of his career with his 2-for-3 afternoon. He also walked two times as he reached base in four of his five plate appearances.

• Matt Sanders went 2-for-5 for his 10^th multi-hit game of the season and the team-leading 40^th time of his career.

• Justin Friend drove in a pair of runs with a single in the first inning for his team-leading sixth multi-RBI game of the season and the 12th of his career.

• Troy starter Austin Crook tossed a season-low 4.1 innings before turning the ball over to the bullpen; he allowed three runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
