Softball Heads to No. 16 UL Lafayette for Sun Belt Action

TROY, Alabama – The Troy softball team will travel to Lafayette, La., to continue Sun Belt play against the No. 16 ranked Ragin' Cajuns April 8 and 9. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 2 and 4 p.m. and Sunday's finale will begin at noon.

Troy (16-22, 4-9 SBC) is coming off a close series loss against UT Arlington. Troy fell by one run in game one, but bounced back to run rule the Mavericks 9-0 in five innings. In Sunday's rubber match, UT Arlington took the series with a 5-2 win over the Trojans.

Senior Becca Hartley leads the squad with a .353 average at the plate, 35 runs, 41 hits, 13 home runs, and 34 RBIs. She is currently fourth in the country with 13 home runs in 38 games played and fifth nationally with 91 total bases.

UL Lafayette (26-5, 9-0 SBC) leads the conference and is riding a nine game win streak. The Ragin' Cajuns swept Georgia Southern in their last conference series in Statesboro, Ga. Kassidy Zeringue leads the team with a .400 batting average, while standout junior DJ Sanders leads the nation with 17 home runs, Sanders has also posted 41 RBIs, 98 total bases and a slugging percentage of .980.

 • Hartley set a new career home run record as she hit her 12th homer of the season against Coastal Carolina. Her previous record was 11, that she hit in 2016. She moves up to gain solo possession of the fourth place single season home run record at Troy, right behind Hannah Day who posted 16 in 2016.

• Snyder has recorded 12 multi-hit games this season which is a team high.

• Hartley ranks 33rd nationally in slugging percentage with a .784

• Maddie Porter has reached base in 16 consecutive games, a career and current team high. She also leads the conference in hit by pitches with 13, which puts her in the 25th spot nationally.

•Hartley and Snyder lead the Sun Belt in total plate appearances with 148 and 138, respectively. Snyder is second in the conference with 126 at-bats followed by Hartley with 116.

• The Trojans lead the Sun Belt with 50 doubles on the season. Nine different players have hit multiple doubles this season. Becca Hartley and Stephanie Snyder lead the team with nine.

• Troy is third in the conference with 166 runs scored, while they are fourth with 26 home runs.

•ULL will be the fourth ranked team the Trojans have faced this year. Troy walked off against No. 19 Pittsburgh in February, but fell to then No. 10 Minnesota and No. 13 LSU in March at the LSU Tournament.

Troy will return home to host ULM for a weekend conference series April 14-15, before hosting No. 1 Florida State for a mid week double header on Tuesday, April 18 at 4 and 6 p.m. Admission to Troy softball games are free.
