MOBILE, Alabama – In the final away match of the regular season, Troy was unable to muster an upset against No. 44 South Alabama as the Trojans fell 4-0 on Thursday afternoon.
It took time for the match to be played at all as it was orginially scheduled for March 29, but severe weather pushed it back. Three of the singles matches did not finish and Troy (10-10) dropped the doubles point 2-1.
South Alabama (21-5) allowed just one singles match to register a point in a third set. It was a hard fought effort, however, as Jaiqi Duan fell to Lucas Gonzalez 7-5 in straight sets while Hassan Ndayishimiyie narrow lost 7-5, 6-4 to No. 98 Tuki Jacobs.
Andy Lau and Fillip Mansson won their doubles match 6-4, but the combinations of Andre Baldo and Mustapha Belcora and Ndayishimiyie and Pablo Moreno both were defeated 6-4.
NOTEWORTHY
• South Alabama and Troy split the season series 1-1. The Trojans picked up a 4-2 win over the Jaguars in the third match of the season.
• The final regular season matches of the season will be senior day on Saturday against Columbus State at 11 a.m. and Alabama A&M at 2:30 p.m.
