Women’s Golf Travels to Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

TROY, Alabama – Troy's busy spring continues as the Trojans travel to Athens, Ga., for the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic this weekend before competing in the Brickyard Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
The Liz Murphey, which is hosted by Georgia, is a unique event as teams will play 18 holes of stroke play on Friday before transitioning to match play over the final two days. The field features the nation's top two teams in No. 1 Alabama and No. 2 Southern California in addition seven other top-50 teams; the Trojans enter the weekend ranked 89th nationally.
Led by Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Week Fátima Fernández Cano, the Trojans are coming off a pair of successful outings at the 3M Jaguar Invitational and the Henssler Financial Intercollegiate. Troy's national ranking has improved by over 20 spots in the past two weeks thanks to its play at the two events.
Cano tied for fifth and fourth, respectively, at the two events en route to the league honor. She heads to Athens with a 73.05 stroke average and +1.33 score vs. par on the season; all but one of her 21 rounds this season have counted towards Troy's team score.
Bianca Lohbauer has turned in the best spring of any Trojan as she carries a 73.56 average into the Luz Murphey Collegiate Classic over Troy's three spring events. Lohbauer is +3.43 vs. par for the year, while Gabi Oubre' has a +4.29 score vs. par and a 74.56 average this spring. Head coach Bart Barnes will also turn to Becca Horner (+5.14) and Bria Jansen (+10.00) this weekend.
Troy knocked off Georgia in the match play portion of the 2014 Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, which was its last appearance in the event.
