TROY, Alabama – Troy is nearing the home stretch of spring practice after the Trojans worked out for just over two hours in a physical practice Thursday evening on the grass fields behind Trojan Arena.

Troy opens the 2017 season with a highly-anticipated matchup at Boise State on Sept. 2 before opening its six-game home slate the following week against Alabama State.

"I thought from an effort, energy and emotion standpoint it was our best day of the spring. We had a lot of competition, a lot of give-and-take, it definitely wasn't one-sided today. I thought the defense was really strong early and the offense made a bunch of plays late – an encouraging practice.

"We're down a few bodies so we're going to half practice and half scrimmage on Saturday. I'm really excited about our former players coming back. We've got so many things positive going on around this program and we've got over 100 former players coming back. We're going to have a cookout Friday night and have a captain's breakfast Saturday morning before we scrimmage – it will be an opportunity for our players to get to know the guys who played their position before them."

The Trojans will move into The Vet on Saturday for Alumni Day and their second scrimmage of spring practice. The scrimmage is scheduled to begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. and admission is free.
