Trojans Down Coastal; Advance to Semifinals

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – The four-seeded Troy women's tennis team defeated the five seed Coastal Carolina 4-2 on Friday at the Sun Belt Conference Championships at City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.

Coastal Carolina won the early doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The Chanticleers defeated Troy on court two, but the Trojans came back as Efriliya Herlina and Jiayuan Xue won 6-3 on court three to tie it up. The doubles point came down to Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky on court one. Troy fought hard, but Coastal defeated the Trojans 7-6 in a tiebreak to earn the point.

In singles, Coastal jumped out to another early lead as they took the point on court three to go up 2-0. Xue and Herlina won the next two matches 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-0, respectively, to tie up the match. Hannah Seizer notched a 6-2, 6-1 win on court two, and Ohta clinched the match on court one in three sets with a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 win over the Chanticleers.

Troy will face the No. 1 seed, ULM, who defeated Texas State in the quarterfinals, on Saturday at 10 a.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN 3. Radio and live stats will also be available.
