Women’s Tennis’ Season Comes to a Close with Loss to ULM

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana- After defeating Coastal Carolina on Friday in the quarterfinals, the Troy women's tennis team fell to No. 1 ULM 4-1 in the Sun Belt Championship semifinals at the City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.

Troy (8-15) got off to a hot start and won the doubles point as Nancy Karaky and Sanae Ohta earned a 7-5 win on court one. Senior Alicia Rodriguez and junior Hannah Seizer clinched the point as they defeated their Warhawk opponents 6-4 on court two.

ULM (15-1) was able to bounce back and pick up four straight wins in singles to get the win and move on to the finals. The Warhawks only loss on the season was to No. 12 Auburn.

Sanae Ohta finished the season with a 10-12 record in dual match play and 12-15 overall. Ohta and Karaky were dominating on court one in doubles going 12-6 on the season. Lone senior Alicia Rodriguez finished the year with an 11-3 dual match record and a 12-6 overall record splitting her playing time between courts five and six. Efriliya Herlina went 10-11 in dual match pay and 2-1 in the Sun Belt.

"I am very proud of the girls' performance towards end of the season," head coach Rawia Elsis said. "They gave everything they had, and went into the Sun Belt Championships and competed hard the entire tournament. I am very excited about next year as we will have four very hungry seniors. We will develop our younger players and learn from this season moving forward."
