TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's golf team travels to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and the Robert Trent Jones Fighting Joe Course for the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Monday through Wednesday.
The Trojans have won two the last three Sun Belt titles and finished second in last year's event; Troy has led at the end of seven of the past nine rounds in the Sun Belt Championship.
Troy's lineup features two of the top three golfers in the Sun Belt in senior Fátima Fernández Cano and sophomore Bianca Lohbauer. Cano is second with a 1.43 adjusted score vs. par and a 129-national ranking, while Lohbauer is third with a 3.03 adjusted score vs. par.
The top three teams in the league are separated by just 15 spots in the national rankings as Coastal Carolina (76), Texas State (88) and Troy (91) will make up the final pairing for Monday's opening round beginning at 8:45 a.m.
Troy is 1-1 against Coastal Carolina this season, but the Trojans defeated the Chanticleers by 39 shots in the last meeting between the two schools. Troy and Texas State have not crossed paths yet this season.
Cano leads the Trojans with seven top-25 finishes in nine events this season and with four rounds under par. Lohbauer has been Troy's hottest player with a 74.0 spring stroke average and three top-20 finishes, including a fourth-place finish, in three of Troy's last four events.
Two other seniors will be making their final appearance in the Sun Belt Championship as Becca Horner and Gabi Oubre' will tee it up for the Trojans. Oubre' is third on the team with a +4.92 score vs. par average this season, while Horner bring a +5.40 score vs. par average into the Sun Belt Championship. Horner has turned in two top-six finishes in her three career Sun Belt appearances.
Head coach Bart Barnes will turn to sophomore Lindsey Harrison to fill out his last spot in the lineup. Harrison played as an individual in the season-ending Brickyard Collegiate and turned in Troy's fourth-best outing.
Quotable – Head Coach Bart Barnes
"We're very excited to play in the Sun Belt Championship. We've been playing a lot of golf, but this is one of the biggest ones we'll play all year. I expect some really good golf – I expect some good golf from our group and I expect Coastal Carolina and Texas State to play really well. I think that we'll have a surprise somewhere else. Georgia Southern has really played well this semester, and I'm expecting a highly competitive golf tournament with some really good scores.
