Women's Tennis Drops in Hard Fought Home Opener
TROY, Alabama- The Troy women's tennis team (2-8) hosted its first home meet of the season against the University of New Orleans on Sunday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. The Trojans fell by one 4-3 in a close match.
Troy picked up the first point of the day early as they earned two key doubles wins to take 1-0 lead on the Privateers.
Duo Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky finished first on court one with a 6-2 win over their UNO opponents. Alicia Rodriguez and Luisa Ferrauti finished second on court two to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win over UNO.
In singles competition, Ohta and Rodriguez were the only Trojans able to get the win as Ohta came back in three sets to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Rodriguez also had to rally as she fell in the first set, but came back 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 to earn the point for the Trojans. Karaky and Efiliya Herlina also played three match sets, but fell 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 and 7-6, 4-6, 6-0, respectively.
The Trojans continue home play as they host USC Upstate on Monday at 11 a.m.
