MOBILE, Alabama – Troy (15-20, 3-7 SBC) traveled south for a single game against conference opponent South Alabama on Wednesday night. The Trojans fell to the Jaguars 8-0 in five innings at Jaguar Field. The series between Troy and South Alabama will continue as Troy hosts South on May 7 at 1 and 3 p.m.
Â
The Jaguars (20-12, 3-7 SBC) got on the board early as they drove in one run in the first inning after a Troy error allowed the runner to get on base.
Â
In a big second inning, South Alabama added to its lead as two back-to-back RBI singles advanced runners home to get a 3-0 lead over the Trojans. The Jaguars took a six run lead as Amanda Minahan hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the second with two outs.
Â
South put up two more runs with an RBI single from Kristian Foster and a sacrifice fly from Minahan in the bottom of the fourth to give South an 8-0 lead that Troy could not answer to end the game in favor of the Jaguars in five innings.
Â
Although the Trojans had a hard time hitting off of junior pitcher Devin Brown, Madeline Porter posted Troy's second hit with a double to left field that nearly cleared the fence, but after a couple of strikeouts and and fly ball, Porter was left stranded at second.
Â
Claire Graves earned her 15th start in the circle this season. She put in two innings of work and after allowing six runs, Graves was relieved by Meg Willis. Graves took the loss for the Trojans and moves to 7-4 on the season. Willis threw the remaining two innings of the game and allowed the final two Jaguar runs to score.
Â
NOTEWORTHY
