TROY, Alabama – The Troy women's tennis team capped off its home season with a shutout over Alabama A&M in the final match of the Troy Spring Invitational. Troy defeated the Bulldogs 7-0 at the Lunsford Tennis Complex. Senior Alicia Rodriguez was honored by her coaches, teammates and athletic administration in her final home match of the season on senior day.
The Trojans (5-10) put the first point in the board with a sweep in the doubles competition. Sanae Ohta and Nancy Karaky defeated their opponents 6-4. Rodriguez and Hannah Seizer pulled off a 6-1 win, and Erfriliya Herlina and Jiayuan Xue earned a 6-3 victory over the Bulldogs.
In singles competition, Rodriguez swept her opponent 6-0, 6-0 on court five to pick up her seventh win of the season and was followed by Ohta who won her match 6-1 ,6-1. Herlina earned a 6-1, 6-0 win on court four, while Luisa Ferrauti won 6-1, 6-1 on court six. On court two, Seizer earned a 6-2, 6-1 win. Karaky was the last to finish and won her second set tiebreaker 6-3, 7-6 (3) to get the team sweep over the Bulldogs.
UP NEXT
Trojans will travel to Statesboro, Ga., where they will begin conference play against Georgia State and Coastal Carolina on March 25 and 26. Sun Belt Conference play will continue as Troy takes on Georgia Southern in Mobile, Ala., on April 8.
