TROY, Alabama – Trevor Davis continued his hot streak at the plate, but Troy fell to Hofstra, 9-5, in the first of its two games at Riddle-Pace Field Saturday to even the series at one.

After seeing its four-run lead disappear in the sixth inning, Hofstra (4-9) responded with four runs of its own in the top half of the ninth to seal the win – with the major blow coming from a three-run shot from Teddy Cillis.

The Trojans (7-6) saw an offensive explosion in the bottom of the sixth frame capped off by a three-run bomb from Justin Friend – who added a walk to finish 1-for-3. Trevor Davis once again led the team with a 3-for-4 day that included a double and a run scored.

Drew Frederic grabbed a single and two walks to increase his on-base percentage to .412 hitting out of the ninth hole. After seeing their hitting streaks come to an end last night, Brandon Lockridge and Chase Smartt each hit safely before scoring on Friend's homer.

Corey Gill (0-1) entered with a tie game in the ninth and gave up four runs on three hits, with the bulk coming off the Cillis blast. Cillis, who earned the loss on the mound for the Pride last night, finished the game 1-for-2 with four RBIs and three walks.

Chris Weiss (2-1) earned the win for Hofstra after pitching 3.2 shut down innings – while only allowing one hit.

• Following his 3-for-4 day at the plate, Trevor Davis is now 12-for-16 (.750) in the last five games for the Trojans.

• Today's win for Hofstra marked their first against Troy in program history, while the all-time series moves to 1-6.

WHAT'S UP NEXT?
The doubleheader continues with the first pitch set for 4:20 p.m. Saturday at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojans will send Austin Crook (1-0, 2.70) to the mound for the start.
