Â
TROY, Alabama – Record-setting Troy running back Jordan Chunn has been selected to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine Game, game organizers announced over the weekend.
Â
The 93rd East-West Shrine Game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The game will be televised live on NFL Network with kickoff slated for 2 p.m. (CT).
Â
Chunn enters his final collegiate contest as Troy's all-time leader in rushing touchdowns (47) and total touchdowns (47) and needs just one rushing touchdown in the New Orleans Bowl to tie the Sun Belt career record.
Â
A three-time All-Sun Belt selection, Chunn is one of just nine players in Troy history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season, and he earned Freshman All-America honors back in 2013 when he led all freshmen in the country with 16 rushing touchdowns.
Â
The East-West Shrine Game is a showcase for up-and-coming NFL talent as national media and scouts from every professional team spend the week in St. Petersburg to review the players. More than 90 players from last year's game were invited to NFL training camps and more than 70 made NFL rosters. Any given season there are about 300Â East-West alumni on NFL rosters. More than 74 alumni have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, having showcased their talents on the East-West gridiron before launching their professional careers.
Â
More than just a game, since 1925, the East-West Shrine Game has helped raise money and awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children, a health care system with 22 locations dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs for medical professionals. Children up to age 18 with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the families' ability to pay.
Â
Sun Belt champion Troy plays North Texas on Dec. 16 in the New Orleans Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
