TROY, Ala. – Tuesday night in Trojan Arena will be the final home non-conference game of the season against in-state foe UAB with Troy currently riding a three-game winning streak.
Â
It will be an opportunity for the Trojans (5-3) to earn the first win in school history over the Blazers (5-3) after dropping the first nine in the series history. Troy will have to do it without Jordon Varnado as the forward is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
Â
In his absence, Troy has seen key reserve players put up some of their best numbers on the season. Juan Davis, Jr., has taken Varnado's place in the lineup and has scored 25 points in his past two games combined.
Â
Alex Hicks has also shouldered some of the load at the forward position as he had 25 points—his second-highest total this year—against Delaware State in the team's first game without Varnado.
Â
Freshman Javan Johnson has also seen an increased role as the season has progressed culminating with a 4-5 shooting performance from the field and 2-2 from 3-point range in the forward's last outing against UIC.
Â
The Blazers have had a similar season schedule so far this season with UAB traveling to the Cayman Islands to take place in the Cayman Islands Classic. UAB faced Richmond, Buffalo and Iowa and dropped those three before rebounding for wins against Mississippi College and Memphis.
