DOTHAN, Ala. – The non-conference schedule will come to a close on Thursday with Troy hosting Milligan in a neutral contest at the Dothan Civic Center at 6 p.m. before starting in Sun Belt play on Dec. 29.
Troy (5-7) just narrowly missed out on being able to close this part of the season with a winning record after falling 75-73 to Austin Peay on Tuesday. In a game dictated by 42 foul calls, the Trojans faltered down the stretch without primary forward Alex Hicks, who fouled out with roughly eight minutes to play.
It was the first time this season Troy fell after having a higher shooting percentage than the opposition—the Trojans shot 52.3 percent—and only the second time this year a loss occurred after leading at halftime.
The past six games have seen Troy having to plow through despite not having preseason All-Sun Belt First Team member, leading rebounder and second-leading scorer Jordon Varnado as he has been dealing with a foot injury.
In that time, Wesley Person has taken over scoring duties by scoring 20 or more in every game Varnado has missed, highlighted by three games with 27 points or more with a high of 28 points against Austin Peay.
This will be the fourth-consecutive season Troy has played a neutral game in nearby Dothan. The Trojans won last year's game in the Dothan Civic Center 114-52 against Point and will hope to have a similar result against Milligan (4-9).
