TROY, Alabama – The 2017 Sun Belt champion Troy Trojans will square off with North Texas in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday. However, the bowl appearance will mean much more than just a game of football.
The trip presents several opportunities for a "Trojan Takeover" of the community in the Big Easy. The Trojans will visit and distribute Community Hero Bowl Tickets to local first responders, hospitals, and the Boys and Girls Club; all within the span of a few days.
Troy fans purchased Community Hero Bowl Tickets, which will be donated to military, teachers and first responders in the local community of New Orleans; currently approaching its goal of 1,500 Community Hero tickets sold.
On the first full day in New Orleans, the cheerleaders and T-Roy will visit the 8th district of the New Orleans Police Department, perform a pep rally at Crocker College Prep, deliver tickets to an elementary school and visit Ladder No. 29 of the New Orleans Fire Department.
In addition, the entire football traveling party will participate in a day of service on Wednesday. The team will split up and head to six different locations to work with various community organizations; including the Ozanam Inn, Tulane Lakeside Hospital, Alice Birney School, Bissonet Plaza Elementary School, St. John Headstart School and Carollton-Hollygrove Senior Center.
