Troy Cruises 87-66 Over UIC For Third-Straight Win

TROY, Ala. – In the finale of the Adolph Rupp Classic, Troy exploded out of the gate and never looked back in an offensive flurry en route to an 87-66 victory over UIC on Wednesday night in Trojan Arena.
For the second game in a row it was Wesley Person who stole the show as the senior put on a shooting clinic. Person showed off one of the best moves of his career early in the first half as he spun his defender around before stepping back to hit a three.
That play highlighted one of many for the guard as he cruised to 18 points in the first half. He finished with 27 after sitting for the majority of the second half with the Trojans comfortably in the lead.
In his place, B.J. Miller continued to shine as he had another well-rounded game as Troy's primary player off the bench. The guard had 12 points on 5-8 shooting, five rebounds, two blocks and an assist.
Troy never trailed at any point in the game and jumped out to a commanding 23-6 lead at the 9:53 mark of the first half. The Trojans continued to stay at the same pace as the lead never fell below 12 from that point on.
While Person's night was the story of the game, the Trojans' defensive performance was one of the best on the year as UIC had just 20 points at half—the lowest for any opponent this season—and 21 turnovers.
QUOTABLE
"That was a game that caught me by surprise," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "This UIC game is one that we were really concerned about with their athleticism and their depth, and this being our eighth game in 20 days. We were showing fatigue, but I'm proud of the guys for coming out ready to play.
"That was a really solid win over a team that I think will have a lot of wins under their belt when the season is over."
UP NEXT
Troy will face in-state competition UAB on Dec. 5 in the final home non-conference game of the season.
NOTEWORTHY
• Jordon Varnado missed his second consecutive game with a foot injury.
• Darian Adams, in his seventh game as a Trojan, had a career-high eight points.
• Freshman Javan Johnson had his third double-digit scoring game of the year with 10 points on 4-5 shooting.
