Marcus Jones Named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week

TROY, Alabama – After setting an NCAA record with two kickoff returns for a touchdown, Troy freshman Marcus Jones has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Jones became just the 24th player in NCAA FBS history and the first in Troy's long history to return a pair of kickoffs for a touchdown in a single game.

A native of Enterprise, Ala., Jones took the opening kickoff of the game at Coastal Carolina 91 yards to the end zone to give the Trojans a lead they would never relinquish. It wouldn't take much longer before he would etch his name in the record books as he returned the second kickoff of the game 87 yards to the house to put Troy up 14-3 in the first quarter.

Jones averaged 64.7 yards on his three kick returns in the game, also a Troy record, and tied Frank Sadler and Chandler Worthy for the most kickoff returns for a touchdown in a season in school history.

Jones joins quarterback Brandon Silvers (Sept. 18), running back Jordan Chunn (Oct. 2) and cornerback Blace Brown (Oct. 2) as Trojans who have earned Sun Belt weekly honors this year.
