TROY, Alabama – Troy student-athletes continue to shine in classroom as the Athletics Department posted a new department record 82 percent Graduation Success Rate which was released by the NCAA this week.
Â
The most recent Division I Graduation Success Rates are based on the four entering classes from 2007-2008 through 2010-11. The NCAA began compiling these figures with the entering freshmen class of 1995.
Â
Troy's Graduation Success Rate increased for the fifth straight season and has improved by 12 percent over that five-year period. Troy student-athletes posted an 80 percent Graduation Success Rate in last year's report.
Â
"The continued improvement in our Graduation Success Rate shows the commitment our administration, coaches and student-athletes have made to being a complete program," Troy Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain said. "I am extremely proud that we continue to surpass our goals for academic success."
Â
The NCAA developed the Graduation Success Rate to more accurately assess the academic success of student-athletes. The rate holds institutions accountable for transfer students, unlike the federal graduation rate. The GSR also accounts for midyear enrollees and is calculated for every sport.
Â
Under the calculation, institutions are not penalized for outgoing transfer students who leave in good academic standing. The outgoing transfers are included in the receiving institution's GSR cohort.
