Arkansas State Tops Troy Volleyball

TROY, Alabama- The Arkansas State Red Wolves (14-9, 7-3 SBC) defeated Troy (8-16, 2-7 SBC) 3-0 on Friday night at the Trojan Arena.
Both teams started the match with fight as the Red Wolves took an early 3-0 lead, but the Trojans rallied back to tie the match at 7-7 and then broke away with a lead. The Trojans held on to lead over Arkansas State until the Red Wolves fought back with five straight points to put the set within one. Each team rallied, but Arkansas State closed the set with a three-point run to take set one 30-28.
The Trojans got on the board first in the second set, but a six-point run from the Red Wolves gave them a 12-7 lead. Troy continued to find the floor to get within two, but Arkansas State solidified a 2-0 lead with a 25-22 win in set two.
Troy fought back, but couldn't contain the powerful Red Wolf offense as Arkansas State went on several runs and capped the match with a 25-14 win in set three.
Arkansas State finished the match hitting .302, while the Trojans concluded with a .157 hitting percentage. Jenni Young led the efforts for the Trojans with 10 kills and three blocks. Defensively, Cheyenne Hayes and SaraGrace Wilson both contributed eight digs. For Arkansas State, junior Carlisa May had a huge night with 24 kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
