Troy Aims For First Sun Belt Win At Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Georgia – Troy heads into the second weekend of Sun Belt play looking to earn the first conference win of the season against Georgia Southern on Saturday. Tip off will be at 4 p.m. There will be a live video stream on GSEagles.com and a live radio call on TroyTrojans.com by Jerry Miller and Barry McKnight.

It will be the first of two away games in Georgia. Following Saturday's game, the Trojans (8-7) will then travel to Atlanta, Ga. To face Georgia State for the first of the home-and-home series on Monday at 6 p..m.

The first conference game of the year Monday at South Alabama was mere minutes away from falling in Troy's favor. The Trojans led 75-70 with 1:57 to play, but it was all Jaguars to finish the game.

South Alabama scored the final six points of the game to walk away with a 76-75 win. Troy had the ball with the shot clock off and a chance to win, but Jordon Varnado was stripped at the buzzer.

Varnado has been a force this season. He leads the team with 15.2 points and is second with 6.8 rebounds per game. The reason he is second is because DeVon Walker is now averaging 6.9 rebounds per game after his 14 point, 15 rebound performance against South Alabama.

Georgia Southern has won four of the last five en route to an 8-6 record. Five of six losses have come on the road with games at N.C. State, Minnesota, Mercer, Akron and Winthrop. The most recent outing was an 88-65 win at home against Georgia State to start conference play.
